Veterans Day, originally known as Armistice Day, is a Federal holiday and observed annually on November 11, honoring the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. It also marks the anniversary of the end of World War I when the Armistice with Germany went into effect at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed Armistice Day as November 11, 1919. On May 13, 1938, Congress passed an act making the 11th of November of each year a legal holiday "a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated and known as 'Armistice Day'." In June 1954, "Armistice" was changed to "Veterans" and since that time, November 11 has been known as Veterans Day.

In 1971 with the initiation of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, Veterans Day was moved to the fourth Monday of October. In 1978, it was changed once again, back to the original date of November 11, and has remained thus.

KFIL and KVGO salute the wonderful men and women who are U.S. military veterans. We celebrate you and thank you for your service to this great country of ours.
