On a game rescheduled from Monday afternoon, we had the rescheduled contest on a beautiful Saturday morning. From the box, KFIL called the game, and the Rushford-Peterson Trojans defeated the Mabel-Canton Cougars 6-2.

The Cougars offense got going first, with a one-out base hit by Parker Ingvalson. Courtesy runner Spencer Arnold took second on a passed ball, then Logan Richardson laced a single down the third base line. Arnold reached third on the play with Mike Selness coming to bat. Selness grounded to shortstop, and on a tough ball to possibly turn, everyone moved up. Spencer Arnold came in to make the score 1-0 M-C before Ben Ansell got some swings and misses to end the inning.

Ansell led off the top of the first, and was hit by a pitch on a full count delivery. He stole second then moved to third on a tough ground ball to short. Ethan Anderson hit a fly ball to center field that could not be squeezed coming in on it, and the Trojans tied it up 1-1.

The bottom of the second inning saw a leadoff single from Carter Weidemann and a stolen base. Again with two outs, Weidemann was going as Nolan Mueller grounded to short. Mueller was able to reach first, and Weidemann scored to give Rushford-Peterson the 2-1 lead. After two consecutive walks, Parker Ingvalson got the big strikeout to prevent any further damage in the inning.

Moving on to the fourth inning, Sam Schwendinger ripped a base hit to lead off. He then stole second base. Ben Ansell came up two batters later to drive him in for the 3-1 Trojans lead.

Ben Ansell had retired the side in three straight innings, but In the bottom of the 5th inning, the Cougars a little more offense. Talon Peterson led off with a sharp hit to center field, and advanced to second on a misplay. The Cougars got a two-out hit this time, as Drew Wyffels scored Peterson on a base hit to left center to cut it down to 3-2.

The Trojans created the last offensive damage. A pair of infield hits, by Tim Highum and Ben Ansell, respectively, and two consecutive walks scored the first run of the inning. Then a couple pitches found their way past the catcher to score two more to put the Trojans up by four heading into the final frame. Ansell retired the side in order in the top of the 7th to secure the 6-2 victory for the Trojans.

KFIL Player of the Game for the Mabel-Canton Cougars was Cody Hershberger. Hershberger got one hit in the game, and made the plays on defense at first base.

KFIL Player of the Game for the Rushford-Peterson Trojans was Ben Ansell. On the mound, he delivered 7 innings of work, allowing just 5 hits, striking out 7, all without a walk. At the plate, Ansell was 2/2 with a stolen base, run batted in, and two runs scored.
