Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Heart of the City has reached a new milestone.

Starting on Monday, August 23rd at 8 a.m. First Avenue between Second Street and Center Street will open to vehicles and pedestrian traffic in downtown Rochester.

According to a news release the new curbless two-way street is designed with a focus on accessibility and safety. Parallel parking is included on both the south and north ends of First Avenue.

The news release also states that the project team is continuing to focus on opening areas of the project as they are completed, and some areas will continue to be adjusted after opening.

The community is invited to attending the event from 8 - 9 a.m. with comments by Mayo Kim Norton, City Council Member Kirkpatrick, Destination Medical Center Executive Director Patrick Seeb, and Rochester Downtown Alliance Executive Director Holly Masek at 8:15 a.m.
