In 1986, Tony LaRussa was fired as White Sox manager and replaced by Jim Fregosi.  LaRussa lead the Sox to a 26-38 record.

Pete Rose, in 1982, played in his 3,000 major league game.  The only other players to reach the milestone as of that date are Ty Cobb, Stan Musial, Hank Aaron and Carl Yastrzemski.

In 1973, Cy Acosta of Chicago became the first American League pitcher to bad since the DH rule went into effect.  He struck out in the eighth inning.
