The Spring Grove Lions caught fire from the field in the second half and were able to outlast the number 2 seeded Ada-Borup Cougars in overtime 72-68 to earn third place in the Class A State Tournament.

The Lions fell behind early but were able to bounce back and take a 32-29 lead into the half. The Cougars shot 42 percent from the field in the first half, while Spring Grove shot just 39 percent. however, the Lions hit three more threes in the first half than Ada-Borup to help them take the lead at the break.

The second half saw some great back-and-forth action as the teams traded baskets, but Ada-Borup was able to build a five-point lead with 45 seconds to go in regulation. Then, back-to-back 3s by Alex Folz earned the Lions a 64-62 lead with 10 seconds to go. Then Preston Gwin hit a layup as the time expired to tie the game at 64 at the break.

The Lions stepped up big in the OT session, as Spring Grove outscored Ada-Borup 8-4 to earn the 72-68 win.

Alex Folz had 29 points to lead Spring Grove, while Ethan Matzke added in 21 in the win. Mason Miller had 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead Ada-Borup while Gwin finished with 19. Folz and Matzke were named All-Tournament team.
