Three More COVID Deaths Reported in the Rochester Area
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - COVID-19 continues to kill even as the spread of the virus is slowing and the number of Minnesotans vaccinated against it steadily rises.
The Minnesota Department of Health today reported another 10 coronavirus-related deaths in the state. Three of the deaths involved residents of Olmsted County. Two of the victims were in their 70s, while the third was between 50 and 54 years old. Of the nearly 6400 COVID-19 deaths reported in Minnesota since the beginning of the pandemic, the number of deaths in that age group is only a little above 100. There have now been 89 coronavirus-related deaths in Olmsted County.
783 new COVID-19 cases were reported statewide today. The daily testing total was about 18,630 and the daily testing positivity rate was about 4.2 percent.
29 of the new infections reported today were found in Olmsted County where the weekly count of new cases reported last week dropped below 200 for the first time since early October. Olmsted Public Health noted the weekly total has now decreased for six consecutive weeks and the daily average for new cases has dropped to 24.
The State Health Department says nearly 696,000 Minnesotans have now received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and the number of state residents who have been administered both shots is over 246,000. The overall vaccination total in Olmsted County has risen above 38,000 and almost 21,500 have had the required two doses of the vaccine.
