This Famous ‘Voice’ Coach Once Set a Record at the Minnesota State Fair
The Great Minnesota Get-Back-Together opens for the first time in two years on Thursday, August 26th. But did you know this famous coach from 'The Voice' once set a record at the Minnesota State Fair?
I'll give you a hint: The record in question here does NOT involve how many Sweet Martha's Cookies this particular coach from the NBC TV show ate. Nor does it involve how many Pronto Pups this famous singer downed while at the Fair. It actually involves the entertainment on the grandstand.
First, some State Fair entertainment history
According to its official website, the Minnesota State Fair started offering entertainment in the grandstand waaaay back in 1962. Dennis Day, Jane Russell and Jimmy Dean were the headliners on the main stage back then.
Since that time, the State Fair has attracted some pretty big names too. Classic country icons like Buck Owens, Dolly Parton and Conway Twitty all played here back in the late '60s. In the '70s, Charlie Rich, Jerry Reed, Tanya Tucker and the Brady Bunch kids were some of the big names on the main stage.
In the '80s, Willie Nelson, Alabama, Barbara Mandrell and the Oak Ridge Boys were marquee performers. And, in the 90's you had big country stars like Reba McEntire, Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, Travis Tritt and Brooks & Dunn all sell tons of tickets.
So just which State Fair record did this famous singer set?
Well, THIS singer and coach on 'The Voice' set a record for selling the MOST tickets in Minnesota State Fair history. Any guesses? My guess was Garth, who played here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes right when his popularity was taking off, back in '91 and '92. But, nope, it wasn't him. And it also wasn't Tim McGraw, who played here in '97, or even Brooks & Dunn, who played the Fair several times at the peak of their popularity in the late '90s.
So which singer set the State Fair record?
So when it comes to just WHO set the record biggest crowds in State Fair history, well, that'd be... former 'The Voice' coach, Christina Aguilera, who, the site says, "broke the all-time record for the most tickets sold to a single Grandstand show in 2000, selling 22,117 tickets."
Could any of these artists challenge that record this year? Miranda Lambert and Lindsay Ell play there on Thursday, August 26th, while Maren Morris takes the stage the next night, on Friday, August 27th and Tim McGraw and Midland hit the grandstand on Wednesday, September 1st.
Meanwhile, outside of the entertainment, the FOOD is a big reason we all head to the State Fair, right? Well, do you know just how many foods you can get...ON A STICK... at the State Fair? Keep scrolling to find out!
