The Gingerbread House In Rochester Is Closing In September
Most Rochester residents have had a taste of the amazing donut holes from The Gingerbread House Bakery. Unfortunately, we only have a few more days left to enjoy those tastes.
According to an article by Matt Stolle in the Post Bulletin, the owners at The Gingerbread House Bakery shared with their customers on Friday that they will be closing their store on September 7th.
This bakery, located on North Broadway, has been a staple in Rochester for three generations and pretty much everyone in Rochester has tasted some sort of tasty creation from this bakery.
My favorite part of this bakery is what is on the walls once you step inside. Stories and photos on the walls show the history of this store, including a great photo when the bakery created the largest gingerbread man and landed a spot in the Guinness World Records. That is something you don't really see anymore in Rochester.
There are several reasons the decision to close was made. According to the Post Bulletin, it's due to "the cost and uncertainty associated with the planned reconstruction and rezoning of Broadway, the age of the building, and the struggles the business has had this year."
There is a possible buyer for the bakery and more details will be available next week.
What is your favorite memory, or tasty treat, from The Gingerbread House? I’d love to hear it and would love to compile a bunch and send them to the owner as a way to say "Thank you" for their many years of serving this community.
