Marshall, MN (KROC-AM News) - Governor Mark Dayton hunting party was skunked during Saturday’s 2017 Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Season Opener in southwestern Minnesota. Lieutenant Governor Tina Smith’s party also came back empty handed after marching across fields in the Marshall area.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says just over 150 hunters participated in the morning hunt at the Governor’s opener and they bagged a total of 28 roosters. The results were not too surprising in light of earlier reports from the DNR that estimated Minnesota’s pheasant population was down over 25-percent from a year ago.

Plans for the 2018 Pheasant opener are already well underway. The event will take place in Luverne next October.
