Scientists from the National Audubon Society compiled data and have determined that Minnesota could lose their loons. The scientists say that this is due to climate change. Their data says that loons will either move further north for a cooler climate or they will become extinct.

"If global temperatures rise a 'plausible' 3 degrees above preindustrial levels in the next hundred years, our favorite aquatic bird will no longer find Minnesota summers favorable for hunting or breeding," writes City Pages.

The study also discusses that not only are the loons facing this issue but "nearly 400 species of North American birds are facing threat of displacement or even extinction from climate change."

It's so sad to think that the loon could possibly not be able to be found in Minnesota at some point in the future or, even worse, become extinct. Imagine not being able to find the Minnesota state bird in Minnesota.
