Rochester Project for Single Mothers Receives More Funding
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A planned project for single mothers in the Rochester area has received funding from a well-known Minnesota charitable organization.
It was announced Thursday the Otto Bremer Trust has decided to award $475,000 to the Jeremiah Program that is planning a new facility near Lourdes High School in NW Rochester. The funding will be used to help construct Jeremiah’s 64,836 square foot, 40-apartment campus and on-site Child Development Center and ongoing support programming/operations, which launched this September.
OBT provided earlier support to get the project off the ground.
Funding has also come from the Coalition for Rochester Area Housing and the Olmsted County Housing and Redevelopment Authority. Plans call for the campus to open in 2020.
The Jeremiah Program helps provide safe, stable and affordable housing, educational assistance, early childhood education, and life skills to low-income single mothers and their children.
“The Otto Bremer Trust is a vital partner in bringing Jeremiah Program’s proven 2-Generation solution to end the cycle of poverty for single mothers and their young children to Southeast Minnesota,” said JoMarie Morris, executive director of Jeremiah Program Rochester–Southeast MN. “We are deeply grateful for Bremer’s $475,000 investment in our Rochester campus to provide a safe and affordable home for low-income single mothers and their children in our community to grow as parents, succeed as students, and prepare for career-track professions.”
“Jeremiah Program continues to build on the success of its services and programming aimed at helping low-income mothers and their children to move beyond poverty and into a life of economic independence,” said Daniel C. Reardon, co-CEO and trustee, Otto Bremer Trust. “This is a model worth emulating and we’re pleased to be investing in the work they are doing in the region.”
