Rochester Police Officer Injured in Hit and Run Crash
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester Police Officer was injured early Sunday in a hit and run crash.
Rochester Police Captain John Sherwin says the incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. along 55th Street Northwest near the Highway 52 East Frontage Road. Sherin says 37-year-old Officer Grant Fedderson was in his squad car, which was facing east on 55th Street when another eastbound vehicle smashed into the back of the law enforcement vehicle. The force of the collision was strong enough that it spun the squad car around so it was facing west.
The other driver, 21-year-old Dara Dos of Rochester, kept driving east but was forced to abandon his badly damaged and smoking car in the median of the roadway. Captain Sherwin says Dos then attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended quickly by one of the responding officers. Dos was taken to the Olmsted County Jail on a drunk driving charge and Sherwin says evidence was found at the scene that suggests he may have also been under the influence of drugs when the crash occurred.
Officer Fedderson was transported to St. Marys Hospital with a possible concussion.
