Rochester Non-Profit in Running to Win $25,000 Grant
It has been providing services to those in need in Rochester for several years already and now this non-profit is in the running to win a $25,000 grant.
If you're not familiar with The Landing MN, their story is one you'll want to hear-- and share. This Rochester non-profit was co-founded by Dan Fifield and Holly Fifield, and serves to help those in need. 'Because everyone needs a soft place to land,' is what is says on the cover of their Facebook page.
The Landing MN website explains their mission this way: "The Landing MN exists to build trust, give hope, and support steps toward stability for those experiencing homelessness." For the past six months, they've been running a day center 'focused on serving those facing homelessness' at the old Silver Lake Fire Station in Rochester.
And, now they've been selected as one of two non-profits from Minnesota eligible to win a $25,000 grant from State Farm Neighborhood Assist, which is "a crowd-sourced philanthropic program that empowers communities to identify issues in their neighborhoods," an email release said. It's giving away $25,000 grants to the top 40 out of 200 non-profits that get the most votes.
Here's how The Landing MN can win a grant: State Farm Neighborhood Assist said its top 200 causes have until Aug. 27 at 11:59 pm ET to rally votes HERE. Anyone voting is allowed up to 10 votes per day. On September 29, the top 40 vote-receiving causes will be announced and a $25,000 grant will be awarded to each of the affiliated nonprofits.
So, if you'd like to help The Landing MN win that grant (which they said they would use to purchase a passenger van to assist in transporting day shelter visitors and their belongings to the night shelter), click HERE. (Again, voting starts on August 18th and runs through August 29th.)
The Landing MN has been providing services in the former Silver Lake Fire Station, which had been sitting vacant after it closed when the new Rochester Fire Station #2 opened a few years ago on Viola Road. It's just another way the Med City has changed over the years. Keep scrolling to check out pictures of how Rochester used to look not too many years ago-- and see if you remember!
