Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester Planning and Zoning Commission has denied a request to annex rural property that has been targeted by Rochester Public Schools for a new middle school.

RPS prefers the site along 40th St SW because there would also be room for a possible future new elementary and high school.

Wednesday's vote came after the commission heard from city staff about infrastructure and other concerns. The recommendation will next be taken up by the City Council.

The plan has been met with resistance by the city, which is recommending RPS consider a northwest site where infrastructure is already in place.
