According to an article on cbssports.com, the Minnesota Twins have signed Catcher Jason Castro to a three-year contract worth $24.5 million.

Castro, 29, is coming off a season in which he hit .210 with 11 home runs and 32 RBI in 113 games for the Houston Astros.

The Twins needed a catcher after Kurt Suzuki left for free agency, so the move was one the Twins needed to make.

More important than his batting statistics are his fielding ones. Castro held a .996 fielding percentage, and he threw out about 23% of the runners that tired to steal on him, which was 10th in the big leagues. In comparison, Suzuki only threw out around 18% of base stealers.

It looks to be an upgrade at catcher for the Twins, but they still have a long way to go in rebuilding a roster that had a franchise-worst record of 59-103.

Do you think this move helps move the Twins in the right direction?
