St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minnesota State has joined the University of Minnesota in deciding to resume in-person instruction this fall.

A news release issued today says Minnesota State has been adapting its curriculum and preparing facilities, including Rochester Community and Technical College, to allow for both in-person and online instruction with the priority being the safety of students, faculty, and staff. The higher education institution says the plans include strategies for classroom and campus activities, social distancing, along with cleaning and disinfecting protocols. The onset of the coronavirus pandemic in the spring forced Minnesota State to close its campuses and shift to online learning and other alternative offerings to in-person instruction.

“Thanks to the incredible work of our faculty, our staff, and our students,” said Devinder Malhotra, chancellor of Minnesota State, “we have tremendous flexibility to quickly pivot to either more restrictive or less restrictive modes should conditions change.”

The news release also notes Minnesota State students will be greeted by a freeze on undergraduate tuition, which is currently about $5000 per year at the 30 Minnesota State Colleges and about $8000 at the seven state universities before scholarships and other financial aid. A three-percent tuition hike is still scheduled to take effect for the spring semester next year.
