Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A special service will take place Friday evening in Rochester in honor and remembrance of southeastern Minnesota law officers who have been killed or died in the line of duty.

The Rochester Police Department Honor Guard is hosting the 2019 Southeastern Minnesota National Police Week Memorial Service in partnership with the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard and other law enforcement and emergency service agencies. The service is scheduled to start at 5:30 PM at the Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial with the nearby Christ United Methodist Church listed an alternative site in the event of rain.

This year’s ceremony will pay special tribute to Hayfield Police Chief Douglas Eugene Claasen. He died just over 20-years ago from complications stemming from a neck injury he suffered during a struggle with a violent individual in 1977.
