Updated Date For Veterans Home Groundbreaking Ceremony In Preston – Celebration To Follow
The groundbreaking ceremony for the veteran's home in Preston is officially set.
A New Date For Groundbreaking Ceremony
According to the event page on Facebook, the Preston Veterans Home groundbreaking will now be held on Monday, August 9th at 10 a.m.
Initially, the ceremony was set for Thursday, August 19th. It has since been moved to Monday, August 9th.
Celebration Of Groundbreaking To Follow At The Club
The public is invited to a celebration after the groundbreaking as well in Preston.
According to the Preston, MN Veterans' Home Support's Facebook Page, the Preston Veterans Organizations and The Preston Area Chamber of Commerce are inviting the public to join them for a light lunch and celebration following the Groundbreaking Ceremony. It will be at The Club around 11:30 a.m. and is sponsored by The Club - Bar and Veterans Organizations and The Preston Area Chamber of Commerce.

At a community meeting on July 13th, Minnesota Department of Veteran Affairs Commissioner Larry Herke said the 54-unit home is expected to be completed by the spring of 2023 and then veterans will begin to fill the home roughly 6-months to one year later. The facility is expected to create roughly 100 jobs for the area.
The State Veterans Home in Preston is one of three homes in the process of being built. The other two homes are being built in Bemidji and Montevideo. The addition of these three Veterans Homes will bring the state's total to eight. The other locations are Minneapolis, Hastings, Fergus Falls, Luverne, and Silver Bay.
