The City of Preston is looking to increase the population and build 160 new homes and apartments in the city by 2030.

To help jumpstart the initiative, the City of Preston Economic Development Authority and the Preston ARea Chamber of Commerce annouced the first-ever Housing Summit at F&M Community Bank in downtown Preston.

The summit will bring together area home builders, developers, investors, suppliers, realtors, lenders, area residents, and local officials to prepare Preston to grow over the next decade.

To help pave the way of the initiative for home builders, City officials and leaders will present supportive policies including available utilities, zoning approvals, low permit fees, and buyer incentives.

Attendees will delve into new uncovered demand for housing from the Destination Medical Center (DMC) halo effect, the proposed State Veterans Home, an award-winning school system, recreational and tourism growth, and jobs at new businesses. A local development map and concept plans will be unveiled for sites for all types of households.

The Housing Summit starts with registration and lunch from 11:30 am to 12 pm at F&M Community Bank's Community Room. Presentations will be from 12 pm to 2 pm, followed by networking at the National Trout Center and Trout City Brewing. Register for free HERE. Seats are limited.

Funding for this project came from grants from the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation (SMIF) and the Preston Area Community Foundation (PACF).
