Popular Minnesota Lottery Game Changes Could Mean Bigger Prizes
Johnston, IA (KROC AM News) - Some changes are coming later this month to the Powerball lottery game.
The organization that runs the multi-state game says the changes will give “players more chances to win cash prizes and bigger jackpots.”
One change is a new Monday drawing. Drawings have been held Wednesdays and Saturdays since the game was first launched.
The other change is a new add-on feature called Double Play. It will give players another chance to match their Powerball numbers in a separate drawing with a top cash prize of $10 million.
The new Monday night Powerball drawing and Double Play add-on feature will begin August 23.
The Powerball Product Group anticipates adding the Monday Powerball drawing will result in larger, faster-growing jackpots. The group also expects to see an increase in the number of cash prizes and jackpots awarded on an annual basis.
Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin are not taking part in the Double Play feature at this time.
The game hasn’t had a grand prize winner in about 2 months and the jackpot has risen to $226-million.
