Pawlenty Picks Running Mate
St Paul (KROC AM News) - Former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty has picked a familiar politician for his running mate in his run for his former office.
His choice? Lt. Gov. Michelle Fischbach, who just recently resigned her seat in the state Senate.
“I’m honored to be joining Tim in this important effort,” said Fischbach. “Together, we will focus on putting hard-working middle-income Minnesotans first. Our efforts will include slowing down health care premiums, preparing Minnesotans for the workplace of the future, and making sure government is held accountable."
Fischbach was first elected to the Minnesota Senate in 1996 and her district includes portions of Stearns and Benton Counties. She became the first woman in Minnesota history to serve as President of the state Senate.
Pawlenty says he will skip the state Republican Party's convention that opens in Duluth Friday because he entered the race so late. He intends to challenge the endorsed candidate in the August primary.
