Over 97,000 Job Openings in Minnesota
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The number of job vacancies in Minnesota was up 1.3-percent during the final three months of last year when compared to the fourth quarter of 2015.
A report released Monday by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development estimates there were almost 97,400 job vacancies throughout the state during October, November and December. 60-percent of those job vacancies were in the Twin Cities area, while the remaining 40-percent were found throughout Greater Minnesota. That works out to a ratio of one unemployed person for every job vacancy in the Twin Cities, with a ratio of 1.4 unemployed people for each job vacancy in Greater Minnesota.
“The latest figures indicate hiring demand remains strong statewide with many Minnesota companies looking to fill jobs because of increased business activity,” said DEED Commissioner Shawntera Hardy. “DEED will continue to deploy strategies and training opportunities that match Minnesotans to these available jobs.”
The report found 43-percent of the job vacancies were for part-time jobs and 9-percent were for temporary or seasonal work. About a third required post-secondary education or training beyond high school. The median wage offer for all of the job vacancies was just under $14 an hour.
