Over 80 Rochester Area Deaths Attributed to COVID-19
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Two more coronavirus related deaths involving Olmsted County residents have pushed the local pandemic death toll above 80.
The Minnesota Department of Health today reported 22 additional COVID-19 related deaths throughout the state. The two deaths in Olmsted County involved individuals in their early and late 80s and were the 80th and 81st in the Rochester area since the beginning of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 activity continues to slow down in Minnesota. The State Health Department today reported 1054 new cases, including 34 new infections in Olmsted County. The daily testing total reported today was over 35,000 and the daily testing positivity rate fell below three percent.
The number of Minnesotans who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 continues to steadily climb. State officials say, as of Thursday, just under 500,000 Minnesotans had received at least one dose of the vaccine. Over 138,000 have been given both shots.
A mass immunization clinic was held today in Rochester and will continue on Saturday as Olmsted County Public Health works to vaccinate the remaining people in the Phase 1A-3 priority group who have not been given a shot. Over 2000 doses were secured by local health officials for the effort.
