Olmsted Medical Center To Go Live With Epic
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Olmsted Medical Center announced today that they will go live with Epic, the most widely-used and health records system, on September 29th.
OMC’s board of trustees approved the decision to implement Epic back in August of 2017 and involves approximately 350,000 medical records. Epic replaces the two electronic health records OMC has been using.
“First and foremost, we did this to continue our mission of providing exceptional patient care that focuses on caring, quality, safety, and service,” Tim Weir, OMC’s chief executive officer said. “Epic will offer our care providers additional tools and resources that support the needs of our patients and enable us to better partner with them to improve their health. Additionally, Epic provides an opportunity to offer a new and enhanced patient portal called OMC MyChart. This new portal will improve communication and interaction between patients, their caregivers, and the OMC care team.”
For patients, implementing Epic means being able to have access to an to an upgraded patient portal, and OMC MyChart will provide patients with 24/7 access to their medical information. Patients will be able to exchange secure messages with their care team, view health information from their visits, request prescription refills and request or cancel appointments. They will also be able to view laboratory, radiology and other test results with most results being released immediately. OMC MyChart offers patients a way to pay their bill online without needing to go to a separate bill pay portal.
