Naturalization Ceremony Coming To Rochester Today
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester Public Library is hosting new citizens today.
Approximately 50 immigrants will become U.S citizens during a Naturalization Ceremony held at RPL.
Library Director Audrey Betcher said the event aligns with the library’s mission to be a welcoming place.
“The library’s long-standing core values include being a welcoming space for all,” explains Betcher. “Hosting immigrants in our library as they become U.S. citizens provides us the opportunity to not only be welcoming but also highlights one of our great freedoms: to have equal access to information.”
It has taken some of the immigrants approximately five years through the lengthy process of becoming a U.S citizen, and the naturalization ceremony is the final step.
The ceremony will include the Oath of Allegiance, the signing of the national anthem and participants will receive their official citizenship certificate. Following the ceremony today, those who participated will have the many rights that other U.S citizens have including the right to vote and the right to run for elected office.
