Mother Nature Comes Through for Mother’s Day
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A beautiful Mother’s Day weekend in the Rochester area.
Mother Nature doesn’t always cooperate, perhaps upset because SHE doesn’t get to enjoy the weekend. But it’s a different story this year. Summerlike temperatures and no hint of any rain was forecast for the entire Mother’s Day weekend.
Rochester’s official high temperature Saturday was 83 degrees at 3:30 p.m, the warmest it’s been since Sept. 18. That was 15 degrees above average and missed the record by only 5 degrees. It was also 34 degrees warmer than on May 13 last year. Mother’s Day last year was May 8th, when it warmed to 71 degrees.
Sunday’s weather will be comparable to Saturday with highs in the lower 80s. The Rochester area could experience the mid 80s Tuesday.
There will be a chance of rain next week, which could be welcome as May has suddenly become a dry month. Only a third of an inch of rain has been recorded at the airport so far this month, most of it on May 1st. That leaves the monthly precipitation deficit at 1.2 inches.
