St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - It appears Minnesota will likely set another record this year for the number of absentee ballots used by voters in the upcoming general election. Secretary of State Steve Simon says election officials have received over 223,600 requests for absentee ballots since the early voting period opened on September 21st. Over 84,500 of those ballots have already been completed and returned by voters taking advantage of Minnesota’s four-year-old early voting law.

Simon says the rate of absentee ballot requests and the rate accepted by election officials are both over 200-percent above the rates from the midterm elections held in 2014, which were the first during which the new and less restrictive early voting rules were in effect. He notes that, as of Thursday, Minnesota voters have 26 days left to cast a ballot for the General Election.
