The holidays may be the most wonderful time of the year, but they can also be the sleepiest time of the year, according to this new survey.

It's not a real news bulletin that we're all busy during the holiday season, is it? And, heck, these days, we're pretty much all busy no matter what time of year it is, right? But according to a new survey from the gang over at Mattress Advisory, the holiday season is the time of year that steals a lot of sleep from us.

Yes, much like the Grinch stealing all those presents from the Who's in Whoville, the holiday season can be responsible for a significant amount of sleep loss for us here in Minnesota. According to Mattress Advisor, 64-percent of us are getting less than 8 hours of sleep per night. And, 32-percent are only getting between 3 and 5 hours a night.

So what exactly is it about the holidays that makes it tough to get a decent night's sleep? Well, the survey explained it like this: "The top-reported individual factors include visiting family members (12 percent), the pressure to get everything done (11 percent), hosting family members (10 percent), and financial stress (nine percent)," Mattress Advisor noted.

The survey also noted that WHERE we sleep over the holidays can sometimes negatively impact how much sleep you're getting, whether you're at home with a house full of relatives, sleeping on a couch at your relatives, or even at a hotel out of town.

The study did mention a few things you can do to try to make sleeping easier this holiday season, including planning ahead, sticking to a schedule, and letting go of the idea of having a 'perfect' holiday season-- all things that, if you don't do them, can cause you to lose some zzz's at night.
