St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - State health officials today reported over 9000 new COVID-19 cases statewide while the number of coronavirus-related deaths dropped over 50-percent when compared to the death toll reported on Friday

The Minnesota Department of Health also noted the totals reported Saturday were for both Thanksgiving Day and Friday. The two-day total for new confirmed and probable infections was 9040 and included 134 new cases in Olmsted County.

45 additional coronavirus-related deaths were reported throughout Minnesota. One death was reported in the southeastern corner of the state and it involved a Winona County resident who was in their early 80s. The state reported 320 COVID-19 deaths during the past week. It was Minnesota's highest weekly death toll of the pandemic and exceeded the previous record, set just last week, by 9 deaths.

The health department's daily update also shows the number of COVID-19 tests completed on Thanksgiving Day was the highest single-day total reported since the beginning of the pandemic at over 69,350 and was followed by just under 36,000 tests on Friday. The testing positivity rate was about 8.5-percent.
