St Paul (KROC AM News) - More than 200,000 Minnesotans 65 and older signed up for the state’s first Covid vaccination lottery and less than 10,000 have been notified they were selected to get a shot.

The selections were made at random from the registrations that were received during a 24 hour period that began Tuesday. The shots will be given at several pre-selected sites, including Willow Creek School in Rochester.

Those who were not selected have been told their name will stay on the pre-registration waitlist for future opportunities to get a COVID-19 vaccination

Here is the message they received:

“We regret that you were not chosen to receive the COVID-19 vaccine during today’s initial round of random selection. However, there is still a chance that you could be selected if an appointment at your preferred site becomes available. Keep a close watch on your email and/or phone messages through Saturday, January 30, and be sure to respond promptly if you are notified of an opening. If you are not chosen during the second round of random selection, don’t worry; your name will stay on the pre-registration waitlist for future opportunities. You do not need to take any additional action at this time. Thank you for your patience, and for participating in the COVID-19 Vaccine Pilot Program. More opportunities for vaccination will be coming as the state receives more vaccine from the federal government. Visit mn.gov/findmyvaccine to learn more.”
