Minnesota Police Department Finally Gets Its Goat

He'd been spotted on the lam for several weeks now, but police in Inver Grove Heights finally got their goat.

What's that? Well, for the past several weeks, a lone, white goat had been spotted by various residents in Inver Grove Heights, the southeast Twin Cities suburb that's just about an hour north of Rochester on Highway-52.

The goat wasn't reported missing by any area farm, so police were puzzled. He was spotted several times over the last few weeks at various houses in IGH. I took an interest in this goat-on-the-lam story because I, too, had spotted him.

It was the Sunday of Labor Day weekend and my wife and I were headed back to Rochester. Sure enough, there the goat was, right along the guardrail of the northbound lanes of Highway-52, just before the Concord Street exit.

I said to my wife, "Hey-- is that a goat right there?!?" because while I've driven that stretch of Highway-52 many times, you don't usually see what appears to be a goat behind the guardrail, and I almost didn't believe what I was seeing.

Turns out, Iggy-- as he was named in honor of the community where he was living-- was finally safely captured by Inver Grove Heights police earlier this week. They posted pictures of Iggy's humane capture on their Facebook page. He's spending a few days at the U of M's Large Animal Hospital and after that, he'll be making his home at Farmaste, a Minnesota-based non-profit animal sanctuary located in Lindstrom.
