Hudson, WI (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota man accused of fatally stabbing a teenage boy on the Apple River in western Wisconsin today entered not guilty pleas to first-degree murder and attempted murder charges.

52-year-old Nikolae Miu was formally arraigned this afternoon on the murder count and four counts of attempted murder during a videoconference hearing in St. Croix County Wisconsin this afternoon. He is accused of stabbing five people during a confrontation that occurred while the Prior Lake man and the victims were tubing on the river on July 30. 17-year-old Isaac Schuman of Stillwater died from his knife wounds.

Miu told investigators he was acting in self-defense. He is being represented by the same attorney who represented teenager Kyle Rittenhouse, who used a self-defense claim and was acquitted for fatally shooting two men during rioting in Kenosha Wisconsin two years ago.

Miu remains jailed on $1 million bail. His next court appearance has been scheduled for November 1.
