Minnesota Department Of Transportation Updates No Travel Advisory To Include 12 Counties
The winter storm that prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Storm Warning for the Duluth area Tuesday afternoon is already wreaking havoc in other parts of the state.
Road conditions have deteriorated so badly that the Minnesota Department of Transportation has issued an official No Travel Advisory for 12 counties.
They announced their updated their No Travel Advisory at 3:15 Tuesday afternoon through their Facebook page to include the following counties:
- Lac qui Parle
- Yellow Medicine
These counties are experiencing heavy snowfall, which has led to zero visibility. Other parts of the state are experiencing the same dangerous conditions, which have been trending on social media throughout the day.
The National Weather Service also shared a video to show how quickly driving conditions can change with this storm.
The Duluth area is under a Winter Storm Warning until noon Wednesday, with both snow and an ice glaze expected to make travel challenging:
WHAT: Heavy mixed precipitation. Additional snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze.
WHERE: Crow Wing, South Aitkin and Carlton, and South St. Louis Counties. This includes the Tribal Lands of the Mille Lacs Band, East Lake area, and the Fond du Lac Band.
IMPACTS: Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions are likely to impact the commute this evening and again Wednesday morning.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
