2019 has been a great year to be out on Minnesota's lakes and rivers if you enjoy fishing. In what could have possibly been a 3rd state record for fish, a massive lake trout that was caught on Friday in Duluth was released without being weighed according to some news reports.

In a post to the FishNorthMN Facebook page, captain Jordan Korzenowski and angler Steven Gotchie of Spring Lake hauled in the massive fish that was 45.5 inches x 30.125 inches Friday on Lake Superior.

In a similar story done about the massive trout, CBS3 in Duluth reports that Captain Korzenoski said that the fish "weighed about 51.6 pounds."

The social media post from FishNorthMN states that Gotchie's rod was "set at 150 ft and the fish came out of 110 ft of water." Wow! Just think about the battle it took to land that big fish!

In a true show of nature conservation, the fish was released back into Lake Superior for someone else to hopefully catch.

The state record for a lake trout was set back in 1955 when a fisherman landed a 43 pound 8 oz fish from the very same lake in Lake Superior.
