Man Seriously Burned In Homeless Camp Fire In Rochester

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A man suffered serious burns in an early-morning fire at a homeless camp in Rochester.

The Rochester Fire Department says a 911 call was received just after 2:00 am from a site in the 1000 block of 7th St NW near the railroad tracks behind the Mississippi Welders Supply store.

RFD says the caller said the site was “up in flames” and that “a friend has facial burns.” RFD says there was also a report “that a gas can had exploded." RFD says crews arrived to find a “large fire which involved a homeless shelter and several trees.”

RFD says “the burn victim was waiting at a nearby parking lot.” The 47-year-old man was treated at the scene and then taken to St Marys Hospital with "significant burn injuries" to his face and arms.

RFD says the homeless shelter and contents were totally destroyed and several large trees had significant fire damage.
