The Faribault Police Department reports that they're seeing an uptick in vehicle break-ins, and are offering a handful of tips for keeping your belongings safe.

Some of the incidents have involved vehicles at single-family homes, while others have been parked at apartment complexes.

The Faribault Police Department, reminds us that the best way to protect our belongings is, first and foremost, remove all valuables from our vehicles.

Other Tips from the FPD

  • When you park your car, take your keys with you and make sure the doors are locked.
  • Never leave your vehicle running unattended. (Yes it's Minnesota, and yes it's winter. Still, don't do it.)
  • If you have a garage, use it.
  • If you don't have a garage, do your best to park in a well-lit area.

If you do have items stolen from your vehicle, call the Faribault Police Department at 507-334-4305, and they will send an officer to meet you.
