There’s a new development involving a 47-acre rail yard in the South Loop that could ultimately become the future home of the team.

The land was just purchased from Amtrak by a group tied to future owner Justin Ishbia, which gives them a serious foothold to potentially develop a new ballpark district.

White Sox Lease and Ownership Timeline Explained

As of now, though, nothing is happening tomorrow.

That’s because the White Sox are currently under lease at Guaranteed Rate Field through 2029, and ownership isn’t expected to change hands until 2034.

But this, this makes sense, and puts all of the pieces on the board and in play.

So could a part of the city that has never been a sports hub slowly become a full-blown athletics and entertainment destination? Sounds like a yes.
