When I go out to eat with the family, if we sit down at a restaurant that has cheese curds on the menu, we're probably ordering some for the table.

Since today is National Cheese Curd Day, an official holiday Culver's created over 10 years ago, I thought I'd check around to see where you can get some cheese curds.

Where to Find the Best Cheese Curds in Rockford

Obviously, you start with Culver's. I mean, before I had my first Culver's burger, I had no idea what a cheese curd was.

Please, don't hold it against me.

There are others in the Rockford area that belong on the list, though. With a little help from Google Reviews, I found a couple worth checking out.

Prairie Street Brewing Co. and Cheezys Grilled Cheeses

  • Prairie Street Brewing Co. at 200 Prairie Street in Rockford

Folks who know say to skip the ranch and go for house-made BBQ sauce for the curds.

  • Cheezys Grilled Cheeses inside BJ's Place at 2842 11th Street, or you can find their food truck all over Rockford.

Curds connoisseurs call these the "best curds they've ever had."

More Cheese Curd Favorites in Rockford and Byron

  • Culinary Underground is inside the Embassy Suites at 416 South Main Street in Rockford.

  • Hairy Cow at 450 East Blackhawk Drive in Byron

If you're into a cheese curd pizza combo, pair them with one of their wood-fired pizzas while on the patio.

Why Hairy Cow's Cheese Curds Are a Family Favorite

I also have a bit of a history with Hairy Cow, as my oldest once worked there, and I can tell you for sure, those things are legit.

As I said, cheese curds have become a regular thing whenever my family goes out to eat. Apparently, we took that tradition pretty seriously, since one of my kids eventually got paid to make them.

LOOK: Best Beers From Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery. Keep reading to find out what the best beer is in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C.
