It blows my mind that some people treat animals like garbage.  For six kittens in Rockford, they learned that very quickly this week.

It breaks my heart every time I see a post on social media about someone being cruel to animals.  I can't stand seeing animal cruelty in this world, and happening right here in my own city?  It's even more disheartening to know we are living amongst some very insensitive humans.

After Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary in Rockford shared this story about six little kittens who were left in a plastic bag outside the Rock Valley Food Bank, I have to reiterate one thing: It's so important to get your cats spayed.

With the number of stray cats roaming around Rockford, the last thing we need is another pregnant momma.  Please, please, please be considerate and get your cats spayed to prevent situations like this.

Here's the heartbreaking story Noah's Ark shared to Facebook:

I have really struggled over making this post, but as an animal advocate I feel I must.

These 6 kittens didn’t ask to be born. They also didn’t ask for a very sick and twisted individual to get them soaking wet on a cold day, put them in a plastic bag and drop them in front of the Rock Valley Food Bank. We can only imagine why they were soaking wet. After years in rescue and seeing what people will do to animals my mind goes to the worst. Our rescue was never called to take them in. Kittens without a mother are rarely, if ever, refused. Luckily someone at the food bank realized what was in the bag and called us. They were exceptionally cold and it took them quite a while to warm up. As of 3:00 pm today they finally ate willingly. They didn’t ask to me born, they didn’t ask to me mistreated, they only want to survive now that they are alive. Please, please, please, spay your cats, spay your barn cats, tnr the outside cats. We all have a part to play in making this better. And to the despicable human that did this, there is a special place waiting for you.

To whoever put these poor, helpless babies in a plastic bag and left for dead without a care in the world, this is NOT the way to do it.  There are options.  There is help.

Shelters might be at full capacity, but they can guide you with resources to ensure these animals aren't fending for themselves.  If you can't afford to take care of them or don't have the time to raise more pets, it's your responsibility to rehome them properly.

Pets are a lifelong commitment, and they have feelings, too.  Just like the post says, there's a special place waiting for the person who, clearly, lacks any sense of empathy or humanity.

To the good Samaritan who rescued them, thank you.  You're much appreciated.
