Unique Japanese Donut Shop is ‘Coming Soon’ to Rochester

A new donut shop is coming to Rochester, Minnesota and I'm so excited about it! These are Japanese donuts and I first heard about them because of a shop in the Twin Cities. I haven't been able to try out these donuts but I absolutely will once they open here.

These donuts are called mochi donuts and they look so fun!

I wrote about the first mochi donut place in Minnesota almost a year ago. That one is called Soga Mochi Donut and the location I wrote about is in St. Paul.

They look so tasty!

What are Mochi Donuts?

Obviously, mochi donuts look a little different from regular donuts. Soga Mochi Donuts says on their website that mochi donuts are eight pieces of dough connected into a circle "that are wonderfully stretchy and chewy, with a sticky addictiveness to each bite."

They're also the most popular kind of donut in Japan, which is not terribly surprising. They look like they're delicious and they also just look really fun. Who wouldn't love them!

Mochi Donut Shop Coming to Rochester

While I was out and about in Rochester over the weekend I was driving up South Broadway when I noticed a sign. It said 'Mochinut Opening Soon!' outside of the former Nashville Hot Chicken Coop location.

I'm guessing they're early in their planning stages, though, because when I hopped on Mochinut's website and Instagram I saw nothing about a Rochester location. They do have multiple locations across the country, though.

On top of mochi donuts, they also offer soft serve ice cream, boba teas, mochi donut balls, and Korean rice flour hot dogs.

I reached out to Mochinut on their website to see if I can get more details about the Rochester location. If/when I hear back I'll update this story!
