Your help is needed on Saturday, May 11th, and this is one of the easiest things you can do to show kindness to others who need it most right now.

Stamp Out Hunger Back in Rochester, Minnesota on Saturday, May 11th

Outside of all of our houses and apartments is one thing that we all have - a mailbox.  This Saturday, May 11th, you can still add your letters and put that red flag up so our postal workers know to pick it up, but there is one other additional item that you can put near your box as well.

From boxes of cereal to jars of peanut butter, the groceries you give to your USPS mail carrier this Saturday, May 11th, will come back to The Salvation Army downtown food shelf. Please feel free to comment or message our team with any questions about what to donate to the food shelf. Thank you!

When Did Stamp Out Hunger Start?

Stamp Out Hunger started back in October 1991 as a way to help out food banks and pantries in 10 cities and was such a success, it was rolled out nationwide by the United States Postal Service.  After discussing the best strategy with the nonprofit partners, moving the annual food collection date to the spring would be best.

Way back in 1993, the Stamp Out Hunger food drive was revamped and launched to take place annually on the 2nd Saturday in May.  Over 11 million pounds of food were collected to help food pantries and food shelves throughout the country.  Since that date 30 years ago, about 1.9 billion pounds of food have been collected.
