Rochester Students Make Historic Donation to Aid Community
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Students at a Rochester school have just made history.
The beneficiary of the historic act is the Rochester Women’s Shelter and Support Center, who says they have received their largest donation in 10 years of fundraising.
A news release issued by Shelter Development Director Barb Schramm says, “This substantial contribution will significantly support ongoing efforts to provide life-changing services to survivors of domestic violence in our community.”
Students at Rochester Mayo High School donated $28,000 to the shelter. The students raised the funds for the impressive donation through the school’s Give One For All campaign.
Artyce Thomas, Executive Director of the Women’s Shelter and Support Center, said of the donation:
I am truly inspired by the exceptional commitment demonstrated by the Mayo High School students and the positive impact they have on lives. We are immensely grateful for their outstanding contributions and efforts to help people in their community.

Mayo High School has organized fundraisers for the shelter for over a decade.
The news release says the money will allow the shelter to enhance services for women including, providing shelter, community advocacy, legal support, and educational resources to survivors of domestic violence and their families.
Along with shelter and support services, the shelter also has a 24-hour crisis hotline that connects the caller with an advocate to talk about safety options, services and resources available.
