Rochester Included in Tornado and Flood Watches
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) -
The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for portions of southeastern Minnesota, including the Rochester area.
The tornado watch will be in effect until midnight. In this region, the tornado watch includes Olmsted, Dodge, Freeborn, Houston, Fillmore, and Mower Counties. It also covers portions of south-central and southwestern Minnesota.
The National Weather Service earlier issued a flood watch from 7 PM Monday through 7 AM Tuesday. Besides Olmsted County, the flood watch also covers Dodge, Fillmore, Houston, Winona, Wabasha, and Goodhue Counties.
The National Weather Service says an approaching storm system is expected to dump 1 to 2 inches of rain on the region this evening and overnight and some areas could see in excess of 3 inches of rain from the storm system. There is also the potential for severe weather that could result in damaging hail and winds.
At this point, the National Weather Service says it appears the highest risk for the development of severe thunderstorms will be between 6 and 9 PM in the Rochester area.
