Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A prominent Rochester business leader has announced that he is considering campaigning to become the city's next mayor.

Joe Powers issued a statement today following the recent announcement by Rochester Mayor Kim Norton that she will not be seeking reelection this fall.

"After much reflection, I am beginning to explore the possibility of running for mayor and engaging in conversations about the future of our community. I have never sought elected office before, but I believe this is a moment when stepping forward to serve is worth thoughtful consideration."

Deep Roots in Community

Powers noted that "this community has been my family's home for four generations. I built my restaurant and catering business here and raised my children here. I have worked alongside small businesses and partnered with nonprofit organizations." He went on to say that over the years, he has listened "as people share their challenges, successes, and hopes for the future," and that he looks forward to meeting with residents to listen and learn as he continues exploring his possible candidacy.
