Ex-School Officer Sentenced in Northfield Teacher Case
Northfield, MN (KROC-AM News) - A former southeastern Minnesota law enforcement officer has been given probation following a felony conviction involving a former middle school teacher who sent nude photos of herself to students.
Former School Resource Officer Sentenced
34-year-old Gabriel Crombie earlier entered a guilty plea to a felony charge of aiding an offender. He was sentenced this week to three years of supervised probation.
Investigation Stemmed From Teacher's Criminal Case
Court records indicate the former Northfield Police Department School Resource Officer was originally charged with two felony counts of aiding an offender and a gross misdemeanor count of misconduct by a public official after former Northfield Middle School teacher Katie Ann Hanson was charged with electronically communicating sexually explicit materials to children.
Former Teacher Previously Sentenced
Hanson was sentenced to 60 days in jail and five years of probation after entering a guilty plea in the case. She admitted to investigators that she sent nude photos of herself through Snapchat to five boys ranging in age from 11 to 17. She also told investigators she engaged in sexually explicit conversations with at least one of the boys, who was in the eighth grade at the time.
Student Report Led to Criminal Investigation
According to the charges against Crombie, a Northfield High School student reported the sexually explicit photos to the former school resource officer in March 2024. Prosecutors alleged Crombie failed to thoroughly investigate the report.
The court documents also include a statement from an adult witness who told investigators that Hanson was "seeing another guy, Crombie."
