The St. Louis County Sheriff’s office says canoeists reported discovering the man’s body around 5 p.m. The 911 callers reported finding a canoe that was partially submerged with a deceased person.

Authorities then responded to the scene on Lake Agnes, which is about 25 miles north of Ely, and recovered the man’s body. He has been identified as 62-year-old Mark Ham of Duluth

First responders found a life jacket at the scene, but said Ham was not wearing one at the time of his death. Ham’s family told investigators he was on a solo camping trip, the news release says.
