Amber Alert Ends With Arrest of Minnesota Man & Return of Child
Becker, MN (KROC-AM News) - An Amber alert issued late last night by authorities in central Minnesota was canceled about six hours later when the subject of the statewide alarm was found safe.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension issued the Amber alert shortly before midnight in response to a request from the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office and the Becker Police Department. The law enforcement agencies reported that a two-year-old child had been abducted earlier in the evening.
A news release issued Sunday afternoon by the Becker Police Department indicates the Amber alert was requested after officers responded to a report of a domestic assault around 7 PM Saturday. The female victim indicated 41-year-old Scott Hendrickson left the scene in her vehicle with 2-year-old Liam Hendrickson.
Officials say a court order had been issued preventing Hendrickson from having contact with the child. The news release says, due to the circumstances, the Amber alert was requested.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office later reported receiving a call from a homeowner in Baxter who had indicated the lights were on in a shed and they could see movement inside. The news release says Hendrickson had ties to the property and deputies established a perimeter around it. After more than three hours of negotiations, Hendrickson surrendered and was taken into custody.
Officials say he is being held at the Crow Wing County Jail on suspicion of domestic assault, violating an order for protection, threats of violence, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
