Minnesota Vikings Defensive Streak Not Seen In NFL For 3 Decades
The Minnesota Vikings aren't going to the playoffs this year. Fans of the purple and gold are looking for any glimmer of good news in a season that hasn't gone their way. After Sunday's game against the New York Giants, the Vikings achieved something not seen in the NFL for more than 3 decades.
New Purple People Eaters?
The Minnesota Vikings' defense back in the late 60s into the 70s was known for punishing offenses. The team was referred to as the purple people eaters, anchored by players like Carl Eller, Alan Page, and Jim Marshall.
Since bringing in defensive coordinator Brian Flores, the Vikings' defense has been pretty good. There have been some clunkers, but for the most part, the defense hasn't worried fans as much as the offense has, and for the last 6 games, the defense has really stepped up. So much so that it's tied a 37-year-old record.
The Last Team To Do It Was The 1987 Cleveland Browns
Over the last 6 games, the Minnesota Vikings' defense hasn't allowed an offensive touchdown, something that hasn't been equalled in 38 years.
If the streak gets extended this week on Christmas

The three previous teams to do it were the 1987 Cleveland Browns, the 1976 Steelers, and the 1972 Packers.
Will The Vikings Get Coal In Their Stockings?
The Vikings play the Detroit Lions at US Bank Stadium at 3:30pm on Christmas day, with the game being streamed on Netflix. The game will also be available locally on WCCO/CBS.
