Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken wants the residents of the Sioux Empire to get physical. He's challenging you to get off your tuchus and get active for the next 100 days.

It's time once again for the Mayor's "100 Miles,100 Days Fitness Challenge."  The plan first got underway during the pandemic to help keep people active while a great majority of us were cooped up inside for several weeks and months.

The 2024 version of the Mayor's fitness challenge kicked off on Saturday, (April 27). The plan is designed to get people up and moving at least one mile a day, for the next 100 days.

And in case you're wondering, getting up off the couch, to grab a bag of Fritos and an ice-cold Coke doesn't constitute getting active, even if you do it 100 times each week.

According to Dakota News Now, the Mayor's fitness challenge comes in the form of walking, biking, skating, jogging, or anything that gets you moving daily.

One thing is certain, the city of Sioux Falls has no shortage of different places to get active, be it inside one of our many gyms, fitness classes, bike or hiking trails, city parks, malls, or residential neighborhoods.

Many people have chosen to turn this annual event into a friendly little family competition.

Mayor TenHaken told Dakota News Now, “It’s really cool to see how it’s grown. What’s even cooler is when you see a lot of kids and families that set household goals together. They are excited to walk as a family. Kids try to outdo the mom, the daughter tries to outdo the dad. So there’s a little competition in the family, so it’s been really neat to see, to get the whole family involved.”

Every participant involved in the "100 Miles, 100 Days Fitness Challenge" is encouraged to share their 100-day fitness journey on social media with the hashtag #100Miles100DaysSF.

There's the Great Wall of ChinaChichén Itzá, a Mayan City on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. The ancient city of Petra, in Jordan. Machu Picchu in Peru. Christ the Redeemer Statue in Rio de Janeiro. The Colosseum in Rome, and finally, the Taj Mahal in Agra, India.

Every state in the nation is known for having a series of natural wonders and signature landmarks. So, I thought I would come up with my own list of the "Seven Wonders of South Dakota."

The following is what I consider to be the signature landmarks, monuments, and natural wonders that are synonymous with the great state of South Dakota. I tried to give both sides of the state a little love while comprising this list.
