The Minnesota Lottery has a wide variety of games that people can play. Some people try their luck with well-known lotto games like Powerball, Mega Millions, or Lotto America, but those aren't the only games that provide the opportunity for a life-changing win.

Take, for example, the Gopher 5 game, a Minnesota-only lotto game with drawings held around 6:17 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Similar to other lotto games, players purchase tickets at $1 per play with the hope of winning the jackpot by matching all 5 numbers. Jackpots start at $100,000 and continue to grow until someone is lucky enough to win.

A cool aspect of this Minnesota-only game is that a portion of every dollar played helps protect Minnesota’s great outdoors.

To date, the largest Gopher 5 jackpot ever won was $2,032,201, but someone recently purchased a winning ticket in Worthington, Minnesota that nearly broke that record.

Worthington is a city in and the county seat of Nobles County, Minnesota, with a population of 13,947 at the time of the 2020 census, and it scored a big Gopher 5 winner on the drawing held on Monday, April 15.

Monday's winning numbers were 29-35-38-39-40 and a ticket purchased at the Food-N-Fuel, located at 907 Diagonal Road in Worthington, matched all 5 numbers to win a whopping $1,911,615!

So, who won nearly $2 million? We don't yet know and we may never find out unless they decide to come forward publicly. Lottery regulations are in place to protect winners who win over $10,000. This is because big-money winners can become targets for scammers and fraud, so the Minnesota Lottery will not divulge their name unless they first agree to it.

Hopefully whoever the winner is still has their ticket and is aware that they are now a millionaire! Remember to check your tickets for winning numbers whenever you play the lottery.
